چکیده

Our calculations show that the Reduction-coupled Oxo Activation (ROA) principle, which we reported at Irsee VI to play the critical role for the selective oxidation of n-butane to maleic anhydride by vanadium phosphorous oxide (VPO), also plays the critical role for the MMO activation of propane, as speculated during Irsee VI. However for MMO, this ROA principle involves Te=O and V rather than P=O and V.

In Silico Design of Highly Selective Mo-V-Te-Nb-O Mixed Metal Oxide Catalysts for Ammoxidation and Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane and Ethane.

We used density functional theory quantum mechanics with periodic boundary conditions to determine the atomistic mechanism underlying catalytic activation of propane by the M1 phase of Mo-V-Nb-Te-O mixed metal oxides. We find that propane is activated by Te═O through our recently established reduction-coupled oxo activation mechanism. More importantly, we find that the C-H activation activity o...

Determination of the chemical nature of active surface sites present on bulk mixed metal oxide catalysts.

CH3OH temperature programmed surface reaction (TPSR) spectroscopy was employed to determine the chemical nature of active surface sites for bulk mixed metal oxide catalysts. The CH3OH-TPSR spectra peak temperature, Tp, for model supported metal oxides and bulk, pure metal oxides was found to be sensitive to the specific surface metal oxide as well as its oxidation state. The catalytic activity ...

In-situ X-ray diffraction study of phase crystallization from an amorphous MoVTeNb oxide catalyst precursor

The formation of the crystalline phases M2, M1, orthorhombic MoO3, and a tetragonal M5O14 (M=Mo,V,Nb) type phase during heat treatment of an amorphous Mo-V-Te-Nb oxide precursor in helium is investigated applying in-situ X-ray diffraction. The precursor was synthesized by precipitation, spray-drying and subsequent calcination of the dried orange powder in air at 275°C. Crystallization of M2 sta...

Selective catalytic oxidation of ethanol to acetic acid on dispersed Mo-V-Nb mixed oxides.

The direct oxidation of ethanol to acetic acid is catalyzed by multicomponent metal oxides (Mo-V-NbO(x)) prepared by precipitation in the presence of colloidal TiO(2) (Mo(0.61)V(0.31)Nb(0.08)O(x)/TiO(2)). Acetic acid synthesis rates and selectivities (~95 % even at 100 % ethanol conversion) were much higher than in previous reports. The presence of TiO(2) during synthesis led to more highly act...

Support and promoter effects in the selective oxidation of ethane to acetic acid catalyzed by Mo-V-Nb oxides

Catalysts based on Mo-V-Nb oxides were examined in bulk and supported forms for the oxidation of ethane to ethene and acetic acid. Bulk Mo0.61V0.31Nb0.08Ox powders showed rates and selectivities similar to those in previous reports. Precipitation in the presence of colloidal TiO2 led to a 10-fold increase in ethene and acetic acid rates (per active oxide) without significant changes in selectiv...
